The BMW 328 Hommage show car is designed to pay tribute to a 1930s sports car. The Hommage is outfitted with the latest technology, yet its design cues are reminiscent of a classic that was built 75 years ago.

The car pays homage to the passion and inventiveness of the creators of the BMW 328, although the flat-shaped modern version only bears resemblance to the classic with an asymmetric windscreen, elongated BMW grille and leather bonnet straps. Most of the exterior and interior of the car are made of very modern carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) rather than the aluminum and magnesium used in the classic. The car's body features precise lines that run across its taut surfaces, providing a subtle contrast between the tense surfaces and sharp edges within the flat and dynamic silhouette.

The Mercedes-Benz is an accomplished supercar in factory trim, but aftermarket performance outfitters have been fascinated with pushing the limits of this German masterpiece. The German-based tuner KICHERER Fahrzeugtechnik is becoming the newest addition that is popular with modification crowd. KICHERER Fahrzeugtechnik was founded in 1976 as a distributor for Alpina-tuned BMW models, but it eventually went into the German aftermarket performance business as gained a reputation for being able to perform engineering magic on Mercedes-Benz models through performance parts and full vehicle customization.

However, Brabus Widestar was the first to customize the SLS AMG as they introduced a Widestar conversion package late in 2010. While this package added carbon fiber aerodynamic add-ons, the KICHERER SLS 63 Supersport package is a far more extensive modification of the supercar.

Audi has taken a long time developing their exotic car from concept to production, since the Le Mans Quattro prototype was first shown in 2003. The Audi R8 supercar was worth the weight, though, as it seamlessly molds a Lamborghini Gallardo-like platform to unique parameters.

It began its 20 unit per day production in 2007, and had no trouble gaining momentum and respect among the discriminating exotic car crowd. The 2010 edition features a 5.2 liter V-10 engine and the 2011 model is a chic R8 Spyder that continues to keep Audi on the most wanted supercar list. However, as alluring as the Audi R8 is in North America, there is an Audi model available in Europe that is a cut above, called the Audi R8 GT. For 2012, the US market will finally receive this limited edition German road rocket, with prices starting at $196,800.
